Events & Live Drawing

I am a professional manga artist with over 30 years of experience, currently working on six serialized manga and webtoons.

In 1996, I won the prestigious Kodansha Chiba Tetsuya Award, and in 1997, I made my debut as a manga artist in Young Magazine (Kodansha Ltd.). Since then, I have published numerous works with a variety of publishers. My most representative titles include Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, which have been translated and sold worldwide.

In 2011, I was invited to hold a workshop at Polymanga, Switzerland’s largest manga event. Inspired by the joy of children drawing manga, I began teaching manga techniques in Japan and became an instructor at the Japan Manga Art Institute in 2012.

In 2018, I moved to Hawaii, where I taught local children about Japanese culture and manga creation. Together with Hawaii high school students and the Japan-America Society, I launched a historical manga project featuring Hawaii’s great figures. The first story highlighted world-renowned ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro.

In 2021, I founded a global Facebook group to share cartooning and manga skills with children. The community has since grown to over 3,000 aspiring artists from more than 100 countries.

In 2023, I conducted a week-long workshop at the University of Illinois and appeared on a talk show at C2E2 in Chicago. During this time, I also guided an American manga creator through the ALOHA MANGA PROJECT, which later won recognition from a Japanese publisher.

Currently, I operate MANGA DOJO Tokyo, a hands-on manga workshop space in Ikebukuro designed for inbound tourists and international fans to experience the art of manga drawing.

Today, I continue to create serialized works while pursuing my mission: to make manga a viable career path for people around the world. My goal is to build bridges across cultures through manga and empower the next generation of artists to share their stories globally.
