Lessons are planned so that even students who don’t speak Japanese can feel relaxed and follow along. We gently support you in English (and other languages where possible) during your stay, and we also offer simple Japanese mini-lessons so you can enjoy learning key manga terms in Japanese as you draw.

We support your stay
滞在をサポートします
Each course includes your daily lessons and all drawing materials, and we also help you find a place to stay within a 5‑minute walk of the studio. In addition, there is a separate paid accommodation option about 15 minutes by train from Ikebukuro, where the studio is located. It’s also close to manga instructor Kazuo Maekawa’s home, making it a very convenient base. You focus on drawing manga — we’ll take care of the rest.

Each course has a simple tuition fee that includes daily lessons and all necessary art materials. Accommodation must be arranged separately by the student. All prices are “shōhizei-betsu” (Japanese consumption tax not included).

Who can join? Is there an age limit?

From age 9 and up. Younger children in the lower grades are welcome too, as long as a parent brings and collects them each day.

Accommodation support (DK House Nerima) is for students aged 18 and over. If you are under 18, please arrange your own accommodation.

What should I bring?
何を持っていけばいいですか？
If you'd like to learn digital, bring a laptop or tablet with the drawing app (Clip Studio Paint) installed. Traditional materials come with your manga kit.

Do I need to speak Japanese?

No Japanese is needed for the lessons. Outside of class you'll handle day-to-day Japanese yourself — but for emergencies or important matters, we're here to help.

Can I extend my course?

Yes — up to a total of four weeks from your first day. If you joined for a shorter course, you can extend by paying the difference, as long as your total stay stays within four weeks.
初日から合計4週間まで延長できます。4週未満のコースで参加された方は、差額をお支払いいただくことで延長可能です（合計4週間までが上限です）。

Courses run one to four weeks, which for most visitors fits within Japan's short-term 'Temporary Visitor' stay. Rules depend on your nationality. We strongly recommend confirming your specific situation before booking flights. Our team is available to help you prepare any necessary documentation.
プログラムは1〜4週間で、多くの国籍の方にとって一般的には『短期滞在（観光ビザ）』の範囲内となります。ビザの要否は国籍により異なりますので、航空券の手配前にご自身で状況をご確認いただくことを強くお勧めします。必要書類の準備などのサポートは喜んで承ります。

As a visitor you are not covered by Japan's national health insurance. Medical costs are paid yourself and can be expensive.
