I debuted as a manga artist in 1997. Over twenty years of professional work gave me one unshakeable conviction: manga transcends language. It transcends borders.
I saw it firsthand while teaching in Hawaii. The moment someone picks up a pen, their eyes light up — adults, children, people from every corner of the world. That moment is where ALOHA MANGA begins.
Building a genuine business around manga workshops and education requires one thing above all: staying active as a professional artist. Being in the field means I can teach the industry as it exists today, not as it once was. Continuing to draw is, I believe, the best teaching material there is.
In 2020, I founded ALOHA MANGA LLC. The pandemic made for a difficult start, but that time became an opportunity to sharpen the vision. After returning to Japan, I rebuilt — and in March 2025, opened MANGA DOJO Tokyo in Higashi-Ikebukuro. Today, more than 1,000 international visitors come through every year.
Manga is one of Japan's most powerful cultural forces. Yet the industry remains closed — full of talented people who never get the chance to debut, or can't sustain a career once they do. I want to change that structure. I want manga to become an open, viable career path for anyone with the drive to pursue it. Ten, twenty years from now — I want to see manga culture that didn't travel from Japan, but grew naturally from the ground in every corner of the world. That's what ALOHA MANGA is building toward.
1997年にデビューし、20年以上プロの漫画家として活動してきました。その経験の中で、ひとつの確信が生まれました。漫画は、言語も国境も超える表現である、と。
ハワイで漫画を教えていたとき、それを目の当たりにしました。ペンを手にした途端、目が輝くんです。大人も子供も、どんな国の人も。その瞬間が、ALOHA MANGAの原点です。
漫画を使ったワークショップと指導を、本物のビジネスとして築く。そのためには、自分自身がプロの漫画家であり続けることが不可欠だと考えています。現場にいてこそ、業界の今をリアルに伝えられる。描き続けることが、最高の教材だと思っています。
2020年、合同会社ALOHAマンガを設立。コロナ禍という逆風の中でのスタートでしたが、その時間を構想 に変え、帰国後に東京で再始動しました。2025年3月、東池袋にMANGA DOJO Tokyoをオープン。今では年間1,000人以上の外国人の方が訪れています。
漫画は、日本が世界に誇る表現文化です。しかし今の漫画産業は、才能がありながらもデビューできない人、続けられない人で溢れています。私はその構造を変えたい。漫画をもっと開かれた、持続可能なキャリアにしたい。そして10年後、20年後——世界のあらゆる場所で、その土地から生まれた漫画文化が存在している。そんな未来をつくるために、ALOHA MANGAは動いています。

Tomoko Maekawa
合同会社ALOHAマンガ代表。前職はオンラインゲーム会社にて、プロデューサーとしてメディア向けプレスリリースの作成、ゲームショウへの登壇、企業とのコラボレーション交渉など、幅広い業務を担当。多数のイラストレーターをスカウトし、公認イラストレーターとして採用した実績を持つ。現在はALOHA MANGAの経営全般を担い、国際的な漫画教育事業の拡大を支えている。
Representative of ALOHA MANGA LLC. Previously worked as a producer at an online game company, where she handled a wide range of responsibilities including press releases for media, presentations at game shows, and corporate collaboration negotiations. She has a proven track record of scouting and selecting illustrators as official company artists. Today, she oversees the overall management of ALOHA MANGA, driving the expansion of its international manga education business.

1996
Won the Kodansha Chiba Tetsuya Prize. Debuted in Young Magazine (Kodansha) in 1997.
講談社ちばてつや賞受賞。翌1997年、ヤングマガジン（講談社）よりデビュー。
1997-2010
Published numerous titles across major publishers including Kodansha and Capcom. Representative works: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth — both released worldwide.
講談社・カプコム等複数の出版社から多数の作品を発表。代表作『逆転裁判』『逆転検事』は世界各国で翻訳出版。
2011
Invited to Polymanga, Switzerland's largest manga convention. Inspired by children experiencing manga firsthand, began teaching manga techniques internationally.
スイス最大のマンガイベント「Polymanga」に招待。子供たちが漫画を描く姿に感動し、国際的な漫画指導活動を開始。
2012
Became an instructor at the Japan Manga Art Institute. Began guiding aspiring manga artists toward their professional debut.
日本漫画芸術学院の講師に就任。志望者のデビューをサポートする指導活動を本格化。
2018
Relocated to Hawaii. Taught Japanese culture and manga to local children. Launched the ALOHA MANGA PROJECT in collaboration with the Japan-America Society.
ハワイへ移住。地域の子供たちに漫画・日本文化を指導。日米協会と協力し「ALOHA MANGA PROJECT」を立ち上げ。
2020
Founded ALOHA MANGA LLC in Tokyo. Mission: to make manga a viable career path for people around the world.
合同会社ALOHAマンガを東京に設立。「漫画を世界のキャリアに」をミッションに事業展開開始。
2021
Founded a global Facebook community for aspiring manga and Webtoon artists. Grew to 3,000+ members from 100+ countries.
漫画・Webtoon志望者向けのグローバルFacebookコミュニティを創設。100カ国以上・3,000人超に成長。
2023
Conducted a week-long manga workshop at the University of Illinois. Appeared as a guest at C2E2 (Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo). Guided an American manga creator through the ALOHA MANGA PROJECT — later recognized by a Japanese publisher. In July, launched a regular manga workshop series in Shibuya, Tokyo.
イリノイ大学で1週間の漫画ワークショップを実施。シカゴC2E2でトークショーに出演。指導したアメリカ人漫画家の作品が日本の出版社に認められる。7月、渋谷にて定期漫画ワークショップを開始。
2024
In July, participated in a Japanese culture event in Miami. From late September, spent one month in the Netherlands — conducting manga workshops at 15 venues including universities and public libraries.
7月、マイアミの日本文化イベントに参加。9月後半よりオランダに1ヶ月滞在し、大学・図書館など15か所で漫画ワークショップを開催。
2025
Opened MANGA DOJO Tokyo in March near Animate in Higashi-Ikebukuro — attracting 1,000+ inbound visitors annually. In June, participated in a manga and anime event in Indianapolis.
3月、東池袋のアニメイト近くにMANGA DOJO Tokyoを開店。年間1,000人以上の訪日外国人が来場。6月、インディアナポリスの漫画・アニメイベントに参加。
2026
Served as a resident instructor for one month at EIMA manga school in Toulouse, France. Subsequently toured Spain, the Netherlands, and Italy, holding manga events in each country.
フランス・トゥールーズのEIMAマンガ学校に1ヶ月間、講師として滞在。その後スペイン・ オランダ・イタリアを訪れ、各地でイベントを開催。
